A Royal Homecoming
Port Jefferson truly has spirit! This past Saturday, community members came together during a day full of festivities. The celebrations began with a parade around lower Port Jefferson at 11 am, which was filled with floats and walkers. Even the marching band, led by our newly elected Grand Marshall and Homecoming King and Queen, made an appearance. Each grade level, all the way down to the elementary school, competed in a friendly float building competition, with the theme “Decades.” The parade led a full circle, beginning and ending at the High School.
Yet that was not the end, as the parade was followed by a community pep rally in the Bowl, where games and food were plentiful. It was a fantastic pre-game activity in which everyone could take part. This was one of the first years that the event was hosted in the bowl, and it was spectacular!
As the clock slowly approached 1 p.m., crowds began to make their way to the upper track and field to get ready for the football Homecoming game versus Bayport-Bluepoint. The stands were packed with fans eager to watch our Royals kickoff.
Before the game, the Senior cheerleaders and football players were honored in a senior game ceremony, accompanied by their families. After the beautifully sung national anthem, the game commenced! The Royals put up a tough battle against the Phantoms, playing hard the entire time. Despite this effort, the Royals came out with a loss.
Overall, the 2021 Port Jefferson Homecoming was a successful, entertaining event and brought the community together for quite the “royal” celebration!
