'Dune' Review: Intense Dynamics Paired With Immaculate Design

Dune, directed by Denis Villeneuve, began airing in theaters on October 22nd, 2021. This release caused a huge uproar, especially amongst teenagers around the world. The famous Timothée Chalamet once again left everyone speechless. It’s no secret that the 25 year old actor is incredibly talented, but Dune really proved that.

The soundtrack and setting was truly immaculate, along with the costume designs. The editing in the backgrounds is what really caught my eye. The clouds and the colors of the skies are quite unique. All of the effects tie in to give you a sense of the torrid climate described in Frank Herbert's eponymously named original novel.

The movie mainly focuses on Paul, the main character, who is played by Chalamet. As a result of this, Timothee’s face is prominently featured, which ensures that you have a concrete image of his chiseled face. Many people expressed their distaste about this, complaining that other characters weren’t focused on as much as Paul. In my humble opinion, I have no complaints about this and we still have two more movies coming out that will most likely analyze the rest of the characters.

As for the acting, the cast did an amazing job of truly depicting family relationships and independence. For example, despite the numerous intense scenes between Paul and his parents, he is still able to strengthen his relationship with them.

If I was to rate the movie, I’d give it a 9.5/10. Unfortunately I can’t give the movie full points because it lacks Muslim Middle Eastern/North African representation, as this was where the movie got most of its inspiration. Overall, this film is going to be at the top of my list for the movies I’ve watched in 2021!
